About

Hi, I'm David.

In the summer of 2019 I couldn't play on the team, so I found another way to be part of it: I picked up a camera and started filming my friends' games for the Elmwood-Plum City Wolves.

I grew up in Plum City, Wisconsin, went to high school in Rice Lake, and have been around cameras and computers for about as long as I can remember. I shot game film that coaches used for film review, running the end zone camera at football games and the bleacher camera at basketball. After COVID I joined Rice Lake Community Media, and sports video turned into live broadcasting.

By 2022 that had turned into paid work on live broadcast crews. I'm the Production Director at TV10, UW–Eau Claire's campus station, and I work for Rice Lake Community Media and The Sonnentag Center. I also take freelance video work. I've worked just about every position behind the scenes, on shows with a crew of one and shows with a crew of eleven, for audiences on the WIAC Network and local television. Some of that work has been recognized by the Upper Midwest Emmys, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and Wisconsin Community Media.

A computer class in high school turned a lifelong interest in computers into programming. Now I study software engineering and journalism at UW–Eau Claire, and the two sides keep finding ways to meet.

Journalism keeps me focused on why any of this exists. A broadcast is there to tell a story clearly, and the technology is there to serve it.

After I graduate in May 2027, I want to keep working behind the scenes in broadcasting, whether that means engineering, operations, or building the software crews rely on.
